myrecovery is an excellent rehabilitation tool. It allowed me to take ownership of my own recovery and, as a physiotherapist, I really see the value of being able to support patients with this app.”
The myrecovery app was super, I found it really helpful and am now finally back to swimming!”
This one comes from Doctors, you can see the clinical relevance. It’s about giving patients more control of the process – and that helps us manage the process better. They’ve done it in a really neat way.”
myrecovery is created by leading surgeons, physiotherapists and developers.
Tom Harte is a Surgeon, patient and founder and CEO at myrecovery. Tom was an Orthopaedic Surgeon in central London with a keen interest in sports and soft tissue knee injuries when he fell ill and underwent a series of operations. Inspired by his experiences as a patient, Tom set up myrecovery with fellow surgeon Axel to challenge the current system, empower patients and change what it means to have an operation.
While at medical school, Tom and Axel organised several large events and fundraisers together and Tom currently runs an annual conference on the future of orthopaedics at The Royal Society of Medicine. Tom is also a previous faculty member at the North West Medical Leadership School, which aims to inspire and develop leadership and management skills in medical trainees.
As founder and Chief Medical/Product Officer, Dr Axel Sylvan leads product development and oversees all clinical content on the website and in the myrecovery apps.
Axel studied Medicine at The University of Manchester and completed his Foundation Training in the Northwest Deanery where he worked in Paediatrics, Respiratory Medicine, Urology, Emergency Medicine, Trauma & Orthopaedics and General Practice.
He has since trained as a Core Surgical Trainee with the London Deanery, where he has worked in Urology, Trauma & Orthopaedics, General Surgery and in Paediatric Surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Axel also has a strong track record in medical education, has won awards in quality improvement and clinical research and has personal experience of recovering from spinal surgery. He was recently selected to join the inaugural NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme.
As a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at University College London Hospital and President of the Royal Society of Medicine Orthopaedic Section, Rahul Patel is an exceptional authority on orthopaedics and has been instrumental in developing the clinical content of myrecovery.
Both an acclaimed technical surgeon and a prolific academic, Mr Patel has a specialist interest in knee, hip and shoulder surgery and is a co-developer and course tutor at the Institute of Sports Medicine, Exercise & Health.

With over a decade’s experience in improving management operations and business control, Will is a dab hand at fine-tuning governance and management infrastructure to accelerate growth.
After 10 years as a management consultant with Accenture, Will honed his skills as Finance Director and Head of Commercial Operations at Hassle.com.
At Hassle.com, Will was at the helm as they launched in three new countries and expanded through existing markets to significantly boost revenue and grow a team of six into a multi-national operation with over 60 employees.
Will was on hand as Hassle.com acquired a competitor, kept things on course following their acquisition and has now joined the myrecovery pit crew as Chief Operating Officer, which is somewhat ironic as he is one of few people at management level in the company who is not surgically trained.
